Guidewire is searching for an API Engineering Manager passionate about data, designing APIs, and building great engineering teams. You will lead a team of passionate, talented engineers who are building and maintaining our HazardHub API, the most comprehensive set of property risk data, casualty risk data, and hazard risk scoring in the P&C insurance industry. You will work to continually improve performance, reliability, and scalability while ensuring a high level of code quality. The role requires strong technical expertise, an architectural mind, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across Engineering teams, Product, and other functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, mentor, and lead engineers in a global environment.
  • Lead decision-making and collaboration across multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee delivery of engineering projects and features involving various technologies and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Evolve the team’s culture and practices. Encourage the team’s efforts to streamline processes and workflows for increased stability and throughput.
  • Be technically hands-on as the situation demands.
  • Direct the analysis and resolution of problems associated with day-to-day operation of Cloud and big data infrastructure.
  • Positive attitude to thrive in a fun, fast-paced startup environment
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Strong technical credentials with 10+ years in software development; experience building enterprise Cloud, web and/or data-centric services and products preferred.
  • 3+ years in managing or technically leading software development teams, ideally with hands-on architecture experience.
  • Experience building strong, successful technical teams and coaching and mentoring individuals along their career paths.
  • Ability to prioritize deliverables in a rapidly changing environment; communicate clearly to steer the team to deliver high-quality results.
  • Ability to represent operational and technical issues to senior leadership and dive deep into the technical details when required.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a cross-functional environment, including driving the resolution of technical issues across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent application design skills and a strong understanding of multiple programming languages and design paradigms.
  • Hands-on technical experience with modern full-stack infrastructure (web browsers, application servers, REST APIs, and SQL), ideally in a Linux and Cloud-based environment.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, including acting as a scrum-master for sprint planning and daily standups.
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure and Cloud security
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Experience building great engineering teams, implementing best practices, and setting a foundation for growth.
  • Experience with AWS tech stack, microservice architectures, and frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of API architecture and API design best practices. Ability to lead and collaborate with multi-functional teams to drive API strategy
  • Experience with various engineering workflows in a cross-functional team: defining API specifications, security and compliance, internal/external onboarding process, data integrity, and driving standardized API adoption across the org.
  • Experience with Data ETL.
  • Experience with geospatial products is nice to have.
  • Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
