As our UK team grows, we are seeking a dedicated Lead Artist to join us in driving artistic excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for art across their team, ensuring the team's work meets project goals.
  • Making informed decisions to achieve the highest quality results within project constraints.
  • Demonstrating a strong focus and intent to raise quality standards across all aspects of art.
  • Working with other team leaders and all stakeholders to maintain project focus and quality.
  • Proactively identifying risks and complex problems for themselves and the team and implementing effective solutions.
  • Collaborating with production, project management and other leads at all stages of the project, providing accurate information for planning and making decisions that best deliver the project according to the client/creative brief.
  • Working with all artists and product owners to develop and maintain a project backlog.
  • Defining full project processes and workflows from the project’s outset, contributing to the quality of working practices, pipelines, tools, and infrastructure.
  • Ensuring team tasks are properly defined, recorded accurately, have clear delivery requirements, and align with overarching project objectives.
  • Identifying, assessing and communicating risks and dependencies between tasks, providing strategic insights to project management for informed decision-making.
  • Delegating tasks to the most appropriate resources.
  • Tailoring coaching and mentoring to the needs of their direct reports and other team members.
  • Anticipating and identifying the need for new systems, processes, and pipelines at the project level, and planning and collaborating with specialists/Art Director to orchestrate their implementation and integration.
  • Communicating and embodying art standards and best practices for the team.
  • Fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere in team communication, ensuring a safe space for voicing concerns and sharing feedback.
  • Efficiently balancing staff development opportunities with project priorities, fostering growth while meeting project objectives.
  • Promoting communication and collaboration between artists and technical artists and other disciplines.
  • Gathering and providing thoughtful, constructive, and timely feedback for direct reports.
  • Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of art fundamentals, including lighting, composition, shape language, and colour theory.
  • Solid understanding of sub-disciplines such as character anatomy, animation principles, and UI visual hierarchy.
  • Versatility in working with different artistic styles and processes in both 2D and 3D.
  • Excellent skills with industry-standard 3D modeling packages and scene construction.
  • Excellent understanding of performance considerations at the scene level, able to proactively identify issues and resolve issues during art creation to balance performance with visual quality.
  • An excellent understanding of the technical considerations of authoring real-time digital content, including lighting, shaders, performance, and related rendering technology.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and leading teams across multiple projects concurrently from planning to delivery.
  • Experience leading both large and short-form projects from planning to delivery, shipping multiple projects to clients or public storefronts.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, includingconducting regular and effective staff 1:1 meetings as part of continuous personal development.
  • Able to identify strengths and weaknesses of team members and manage workloads appropriately.
  • Excellent communicator both internally to the department and externally with other departments/clients, including the ability to give, receive, and act on constructive feedback/critique.
  • Able to identify various solutions to address creative challenges and evaluate the potential impact of different approaches.
  • Experience running teams in an Agile/Scrum environment, with an understanding of other software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills by understanding and considering the needs and dependencies of others.
