About the team

Dialpad’s Data Centers and Networking team helps support the critical infrastructure, systems, and processes that Dialpad needs to stay agile and scalable for the future. In this role, you’ll combine your skills in operations and engineering to build and scale the infrastructure that our product builds upon.

The Data Centers and Networking team plays an essential role within Dialpad Engineering. This team collaborates closely with the other engineering teams to plan out current and future resource and capacity needs to allow the systems to scale with customer growth.

Your role

As a System Administrator in the Data Centers team, you’ll own both our hardware and cloud infrastructures. You’ll manage the administration and lifecycle of our global fleet of servers. You’ll also take the lead on capacity planning, including physical data center needs.  In addition, you’ll evaluate, propose, and implement new project initiatives such as intrusion detection/prevention, system/security hardening, and automating manual processes.

This position reports to our Engineering Manager, Data Centers and Networking and has the opportunity to be based in our Bangalore, India office. 

What you’ll do

  • Scout, evaluate, and compare hardware options and colocation facilities
  • Design and deploy a cloud expansion strategy
  • Steer capacity planning and our expansion/upgrade strategy
  • Design and deploy servers at scale into data centers around the globe
  • Develop and maintain automation for a large fleet of servers, VMs, and containers
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes, make purchases, and schedule services
  • Setup monitoring for server, network, and data center health
  • Develop and maintain proper documentation for engineering staff
  • Participate in a rotating on-call within the larger Infrastructure Engineering division
  • Systems and network troubleshooting, fault analysis, and resolution
  • Some travel for on-site work will be required when remote hands are not available, having an active passport is required

Skills you’ll bring

  • Background in Systems and/or Software Engineering
  • Extensive experience with Linux, both on-premise and in the cloud
  • Familiarity with networking technologies: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, Routing, Firewalls
  • Data center setup / deployment experience
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS
  • Keeps abreast of the industry standards and trends

Bonus skills you may have

  • Linux Foundation CS / RedHat CSA / SuSE CA or similar
  • Familiarity with Dell hardware and iDRAC remote machine management
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef
  • Python development training or experience
  • Experience with Kubernetes (including GKE/EKS) and deploying containerized applications
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering
