Established in 2014 and valued at $5B, Checkr puts modern technology powered by machine learning in the hands of hiring teams, helping thousands of companies like Uber, Instacart, Netflix, Compass Group, and Adecco to hire great new people with an experience that’s fast, smooth, and safe.

A career at Checkr means collaborating with brilliant minds, disrupting an industry, and opening channels of employment to often overlooked candidates. Checkr has been recognized as one of BuiltIn's 2023 Best Places to Work in the US and is a Y Combinator 2023 Breakthrough Company and Top Company by Valuation.

We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Product Design to join our team as a key leader in Design, helping us to envision the future and to design our way there. We are looking for someone excited to make a big impact on improving our user experience. Ambitious goals are driving our roadmap this year, and we’re expanding to new markets both with enterprise customers and smaller, self service customers through product-led growth. Our team is full of people who share our core values of ownership, grit, connection, humility, and transparency.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a team of 4+ product designers, playing a key role as their mentor and manager
  • Serve as a leader and thought partner in the R&D spaces you oversee, working closely with PM and Eng counterparts
  • Uphold and raise our design quality bar, working closely with product designers, content designers, researchers, and with engineering to ensure high quality implementation
  • Become an expert in our product and customer base, participating in customer research, seeking out opportunities to deeply understand key customer insights and help ensure that they guide your team and their prioritization
  • Lead and motivate the team to continue to get ahead of the product roadmap, so that we’re doing visioning work that guides new feature development
  • Build close cross-functional partnerships with GTM teams in marketing, sales, customer success, and revenue operations to align approaches for customer acquisition and to share best practices, building strong relationships and mutual trust
  • Lead the team to brainstorm, rethink, and experiment with our customer acquisition funnel and new user experience, owning key metrics around conversion and activation
  • Lead the team to add enterprise capabilities to unlock new markets while keeping our product easy to use

Who you are

  • You have at least 8 years of experience in product design and at least 5 years experience managing design teams
  • Eternally curious, ambitious, and humble. The kind of leader with a bias toward action, and is always looking for ways to improve yourself and your team
  • Focused on product strategy and vision. You don’t just care about “how it looks,” or “what we should design,” but “why are we designing this at all?”
  • Eager to be a strategic partner and tactical executor. One of our leadership principles is “fly high, flow low”. We expect you to be able to transition between the big picture and the details, and help your team do the same
  • Expert on design best practices. Adept at knowing what to advocate for and when to make tradeoffs
  • Good at giving direct feedback that both raises the bar and is kind/supportive
  • Experienced working with both big enterprise and small, self service customers
  • Love partnering with (and advocating for!) research and content design to make sure design work is centered on user behavior and tailored to their needs
  • Focused on driving business success through user experience. Able to combine data-driven design with strong design instincts.

What you’ll get

  • A fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Learning and development allowance
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Up to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Monthly wellness stipend, home office stipend
