Candidate Interview Guide PR & Communications Manager
We’re looking for a PR & Communications Manager that will play a critical role in cementing our reputation as a category leader in mental health care. In this role, you will be responsible for communications strategies focused on mental health and digital health audiences, including driving earned media, speaking engagements, awards, and advocacy initiatives. You will also manage and measure the impact of your work through regular reporting.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and an excellent communicator, able to be equally strategic and tactical to move our goals forward. You will work closely with cross functional partners across the broader marketing team, product team, insurance team, and our executive leadership team. This role will report into the Senior PR & Communications Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Lead strategy for our ‘Industry PR’ function, growing and protecting Alma’s reputation as a category leader for mental health care and digital health audiences.
- Develop original pitch ideas to generate press coverage to further our goals.
- Partner with our insurance team to surface potential product and partnership stories and initiatives for PR.
- Build strong relationships with Alma’s senior leadership team and support them as media spokespeople.
- Manage speaking calendar for our CEO and SVP of Payer Strategy & Partnerships (identifying priority events to pursue, drafting applications, and building relationships with conference organizers).
- Partner with the Senior PR & Communications Manager to identify and execute on opportunities for our CEO and providers to advocate for legislation that advance the field of mental health care.
- Jointly split the operations responsibilities for the team with our Brand PR & Communications Manager (including managing our PR initiatives in Asana, coverage tracking, briefing docs, and our press email alias).
- Work closely with Senior PR & Communications Manager to pull reports and assess how initiatives are tracking towards our quarterly goals.
Who you are:
- You have 3-5 years of agency or in-house startup experience (health care is a bonus) working in PR and communications.
- You have a proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with reporters that result in coverage.
- You’re equally comfortable leading strategic initiatives as getting into the weeds.
- You love the news as much as we do, and are always on the lookout for opportunities.
- You’re a strong writer and are able to adjust your voice and tone accordingly for different audiences (investors, providers, consumers, etc).
- You are able to connect PR initiatives to larger company goals and can demonstrate PR’s greater impact on our organization and mission.
- You are passionate about Alma’s mission to increase access to high quality affordable health care.

Salary Band: $105,000-$135,000
