Expanded Description

Florence’s providers currently provide medical services to Medicare beneficiaries across the following three settings, depending on the situation and need of the patient: (1) in clinic, (2) telemedicine (alternatively via video or via audio-only phone calls), and (3) in the patient’s residence through at-home visits. It is expected that the Billing Specialist will be fluent and comfortable with coding and managing revenue cycle across these places of service, and achieve full, appropriate revenue collection across the enterprise.

Given the strict compliance requirements around health care billing for government payers, it is critical that the Medical Billing Specialist have experience and intimate working knowledge of the relevant rules and regulations, and that he or she take pride in exercising ongoing attention to detail in the daily work.

Additionally, patient satisfaction at Florence is paramount and it is a key requirement that our billing leadership has strong patient engagement and customer service skills to support any questions or concerns they have about services we are billing or the corresponding explanations of benefit they receive from Medicare or their secondary insurer.

The role will report to the Director of Billing.

Qualifications:

- 3+ years experience in a medical billing office

- In depth knowledge of how health insurance works

- Intimate working knowledge of and compliance with all billing rules and regulations, including HIPAA, the False Claims Act, and all additional Medicare requirements

- Working knowledge of how Medicare’s risk adjustment program works, and how it relates to the ICD codes captured on submitted claims

- Certified Professional Coder status preferred, but not required

- Medical Office training certificate preferred, but not required

- Experience working with Athenahealth’s suite of revenue cycle management tools preferred, but not required
