Manager, Instrument Design

📋 Description

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of optical and optomechanical engineers.
• Define architecture standards, oversight processes, and optical design/analysis frameworks.
• Guide optomechanical trades and vendor management for optical components.
• Coordinate with matrixed teams across mechanical, structural, and thermal engineering.
• Oversee standards for optical assembly, alignment, and calibration.
• Lead internal R&D initiatives and early-stage mission support.

🎯 Requirements

• Ph.D. with 3+ years or M.S. with 6+ years or B.S. with 8+ years in optical/optomechanical
• Experience in space-based or airborne multispectral thermal IR payloads.
• Expertise in Zemax, Code V, FRED, LightTools.
• Strong optomechanical design, SolidWorks CAD, and STOP analysis.
• Vendor management and external optics specifications experience.
• Metrology, cleanroom alignment, and environmental qualification know-how.
