Perplexity seeks an experienced ML Engineer to improve search quality across ranking stages.
Own ambiguous ranking problems end to end from evaluation to deployment.
Train/evaluate retrieval, ranking, and classification models, incl. neural/LLM approaches.
Build and operate ranking infrastructure: feature computation, low-latency inference, cascades
Balance quality, latency, reliability, and cost in engineering trade-offs.
Collaborate across Data, AI, Infrastructure, and Product to own final quality outcomes.

🎯 Requirements

Deep understanding of search or recommender systems and their evaluation.
Ownership of large-scale production ranking system or related quality problems.
Strong ML and software-engineering skills across data, models, serving, monitoring.
Ability to drive ambiguous, cross-team problems.
Exceptional depth in modern neural ranking methods or low-latency ranking systems.
Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience.
