Principal Software Engineer - Roblox Database

📋 Description

• Design and implement new engine features (indexing, WAL, replication)
• Evolve the control plane for elastic scaling and zero-downtime moves
• Profile and optimize critical paths with tracing and tooling to reduce tail latency
• Establish engineering best practices via reviews, benchmarks, drills
• Automate testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability, and autoscaling
• Mentor engineers across Storage, Platform, and product teams
• Engage with the open-source community; upstream patches and learnings

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering or a related field
• Deep experience building/operating large distributed databases (PostgreSQL, RocksDB)
• Expertise in database internals (B-trees, MVCC, WAL) and C/C++, Go or Rust
• Hands-on with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos) and multi-region replication
• Proven track record shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on Kubernetes or Nomad
• Ability to turn ambiguous product requirements into a clear technical roadmap
• Passion for automation, testing, and data-driven decisions
• Bonus: OSS contributions to PostgreSQL/RocksDB; HTAP or disaggregated storage
