📋 Description

• Staff Engineer leading the Nonlinear Productivity team in the US with ownership from day one.
• Define technical direction for agentic systems and defend decisions against real code tests.
• Work across GitLab’s codebase as a generalist team solving cross-cutting problems.
• Improve SDLC efficiency by reducing friction through agentic or process-based fixes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers on distributed systems.
• Own a greenfield foundation and scale impact as the team grows.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building reliable agentic or LLM-based systems with multi-step orchestration, tool use
• Autonomous work style in unfamiliar codebases with end-to-end delivery.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals: coordination, consistency, idempotency, rate limiting
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python, with ability to read/modify the other languages.
• Track record turning ambiguous requirements into concrete, shippable steps.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks where plausible-looking results aren’t always correct
