Automotive HVAC Systems Engineer

📋 Description

• Collaborate with internal partners to define HVAC performance metrics for future vehicles.
• Establish targets for HVAC energy efficiency through research and benchmarking.
• Apply design experience to develop practical, low-risk HVAC solutions for various configurations.
• Drive Waymo’s OEM partners to meet comfort, performance and efficiency targets.
• Define sign-off requirements and supervise verification with OEMs and Waymo V&V teams.

🎯 Requirements

• Masters in Mechanical Engineering or similar; 8+ years in automotive engineering with OEM or Tier1.
• Experience designing electric climate compressor HVAC systems from concept to verification.
• Proven cabin ventilation system design, vent placement and airflow requirements.
• Deep thermodynamics knowledge of AC vapor-compression cycles.
• Expert-level know-how of automotive refrigerants and global regulatory requirements.
• Ability to set targets and negotiate requirements with OEMs/Tier 1 suppliers.

• Salary range: $196,000 — $242,000 USD (base, US locations).
