Counsel, Product & Regulatory

📋 Description

Remote in the United States. Counsel role focused on payments product and regulatory issues across the business.

• Act as trusted advisor with deep knowledge of rules for prepaid, debit, and credit card products (EFTA/Reg E, Durbin/Reg II, TILA/Reg Z, and card network rules).
• Provide legal advice on payment laws, financial services regulations, consumer protection, and enforcement actions for existing products and new features.
• Assess legal risks and mitigation strategies; provide guidance to product, engineering, risk, and GTM teams to maintain platform integrity.
• Monitor and analyze new payments/financial services regulations to assess applicability to Marqeta's products.
• Collaborate with internal teams, sponsor banks, and customers to enable launches of new products, features, campaigns.
• Collaborate with outside counsel and drive initiatives across stakeholders.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in fintech/banking in-house or at a law firm, focusing on prepaid/debit/credit card space.
• Deep understanding of payments industry laws, rules, and regulations involving banks and players in the ecosystem.
• Ability to independently and collaboratively drive complex projects to completion on tight timelines.
• Strong business focus with risk awareness; balance legal risk with business objectives.
• Excellent oral and written communication; able to work in teams and independently.
• JD degree and active State Bar membership.
