Finance & Accounting Lead

📋 Description

• Restructure the P&L so it describes the businesses we actually run, with unit economics per
• Set Tern's revenue recognition policy across all business verticals
• Oversee the month-end close process
• Own the burn: the policy, the categorization, and the gap between the P&L expense line and what
• Write the accounting requirements for payment and operations products, ensuring they meet
• Map and close the tax exposure that comes with new business lines

🎯 Requirements

• Deep accounting expertise: Owned technical accounting at a company, able to reason from standards
• Experience building a finance/accounting function: First or earliest accounting hire at one or two
• Revenue recognition judgment: Has made gross-vs-net calls under ASC 606, ideally at a company that
• Payments and marketplace accounting experience: Has handled money that flows through the
• Requirements writing for engineering: Experience telling an engineering team what the ledger needs
• Close ownership: Ability to spot a wrong close by looking at it, and has owned month-end rather
