Home Assistant Python Developer for Hardware

📋 Description

• Own integrations across Home Assistant, ESPHome, and Open Home ecosystems.
• Build and maintain Python integrations and proxy libraries for Home Assistant and ESPHome.
• Write Python software that interfaces with device protocols and hardware peripherals.
• Collaborate with Embedded Linux and Hardware teams to translate hardware capabilities into software.
• Contribute to Home Assistant core, ESPHome, and related projects for integrations/config flows/entity models.
• Own code quality by writing well-tested, maintainable Python code.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong Python development experience, async/await, testing, and type annotations.
• Meaningful experience contributing to large open-source projects, including PRs and code review.
• Experience building integrations, APIs, automation systems, or device software for connected devices.
• Comfortable across software/hardware boundaries, understanding device protocols and hardware concepts.
• Familiarity with Bluetooth, Zigbee, USB, UART, mDNS, SPI, I2C, MQTT, or similar protocols.
• Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and navigate large codebases; strong debugging mindset.
• Familiarity with Home Assistant, ESPHome, or related Open Home ecosystem is a strong plus.
