Principal Engineer, AI/ML Architecture

📋 Description

• Define architecture for training, evaluation, and serving across Coupa's AI platform.
• Evaluate model approaches (open-weight, commercial, hybrid) vs enterprise accuracy and cost.
• Design evaluation frameworks to measure model quality for Coupa task categories.
• Drive technical partner evaluations with AI infrastructure and model providers.
• Architect training data pipelines, including synthetic data generation and quality validation.
• Design retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems with structured knowledge retrieval.

🎯 Requirements

• 15+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in ML/AI systems.
• Experience training or fine-tuning LLMs; shipped a domain-adapted model to production.
• Deep knowledge of transformer architectures and training optimization (LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT).
• Experience with distributed training on GPU clusters.
• Strong understanding of RAG, vector search, embeddings, and knowledge graphs.
• Hands-on with cloud AI/ML services (model hosting, managed training).
