Principal Software Engineer - Roblox Database

📋 Description

• Design and implement engine features (indexing, WAL, replication) to improve latency.
• Evolve control plane for elastic scaling, autonomous healing, and zero-downtime moves.
• Profile and optimize critical paths with kernel tracing and perf tooling to cut tail latency.
• Establish engineering best practices via design reviews, benchmarks, and drills.
• Automate testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability, and autoscaling.
• Mentor engineers; contribute to OSS (PostgreSQL/RocksDB) and share learnings.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep experience building/operating large-scale distributed databases or storage engines (PostgreSQL, RocksDB).
• Deep database internals knowledge (B-trees, MVCC, WAL, buffers); strong C/C++, Go or Rust.
• Hands-on experience with consensus algorithms (Raft, Paxos) and multi-region replication.
• Proven success shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on Kubernetes or Nomad with observability.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into a clear technical roadmap and influence stakeholders.
