Principal Software Engineer - Vector Search - Elasticsearch

📋 Description

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce a leading vector database offering with speed and
• Build new search features, fix bugs, and possibly invent new algorithms or data structures.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities of Elasticsearch.
• Serve as an expert on vector similarity implementation to support search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, handling them end-to-end when needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java; Elasticsearch is predominantly Java.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity on large-scale search platforms; familiarity with vector
• Professional experience with vector similarity algorithms (e.g., HNSW, IVF) on scale.
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of standard data structures, concurrency, and lambdas.
• Ability to work autonomously, guiding projects from design to delivery in a distributed team.
• Strong collaboration and asynchronous communication skills; comfortable working over the internet.
• Experience with data storage technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
