Senior Backend Engineer, Prefect Cloud

📋 Description

• Own meaningful distributed systems in Prefect Cloud: orchestration, APIs, data paths, and services
• Apply query-engine and data-processing expertise to plan, execute, partition, move, and observe
• Prototype, harden, and trade off designs with strong technical judgment.
• Work from product/customer context without a dedicated PM for every project.
• Leverage AI-powered development tools in planning, implementation, review, and testing.
• Lead operationally mature work: write maintainable code, ensure reliability, participate in on-call.

🎯 Requirements

• Senior-level back-end or systems engineering with ownership of large-scale distributed systems in
• Experience designing/building/extending a query engine, analytical database, streaming system, or
• Strong CS and distributed-systems fundamentals; judgment on concurrency, performance, reliability
• Willingness to write production Python; experience in Python, Rust, Go, C++, Java, or similar.
• Product instincts for small, fast-moving environments without a dedicated PM.
• Curiosity, self-direction, ownership mindset, and ability to take on harder problems.
