Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Relevance and Personalization (Query Intelligence)

📋 Description

• Build and improve ML models for Airbnb product, focusing on query understanding.
• Develop query understanding capabilities: autocomplete, smart compose, tagging, expansion, and intent modeling using NLP/LLMs.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, operations and data scientists to identify opportunities and quantify impact.
• Hands-on develop, productionize, and operate ML models and pipelines at scale (batch and real-time).
• Leverage third-party and in-house ML tools and infrastructure for fast model development and low-latency serving.
• Example projects include smart compose, language generation for search, LLM-based sequence taggers, and intent modeling.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of ML experience; MS or PhD preferred.
• Strong programming in Scala, Python, Java, or C++.
• Deep ML practices: training/serving skew, A/B tests, feature engineering, model selection.
• Experience with 3+ technologies: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, Hive.
• End-to-end ML model development experience.
• Experience applying LLMs and NLP: tagging/NER, text generation, intent classification.
