Software Engineer, Backend

📋 Description

• Own the architecture of Mercor's shared backend systems: core services and APIs.
• Define and drive the long-term technical strategy for backend architecture.
• Design systems for scale, reliability, and evolvability; lead key design reviews.
• Identify and pay down architectural debt; lead cross-team migrations.
• Establish backend standards, patterns, and best practices.
• Stay hands-on: prototype critical systems and ship production code.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering, incl. 3+ years at Senior level.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, service architecture, data modeling, and API design.
• Track record owning architecture across multiple teams and decisions that aged well.
• Experience leading large, complex migrations in production without downtime.
• Strong opinions, loosely held; drive alignment via technical judgment.
• Fluent with modern AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot).
