Sr. Materials Engineer, Starshield

📋 Description

• Champion materials initiatives for Starshield satellites from concept to production.
• Develop, test, and evaluate metals, polymers, coatings, and joining techniques.
• Develop, qualify, and implement coatings for thermal control or optics.
• Conduct hands-on lab testing and failure analysis of flight hardware.
• Lead root-cause failure investigations using first principles.
• Perform prototype trials, materials analysis, and property characterization.
• Establish a lifecycle from supply chain to final in-house production.
• Collaborate with external vendors to control processes and drive improvement.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Master’s degree or PhD in related technical discipline.
• 1+ years in polymers, coatings, joining tech.
• Characterization techniques: SEM-EDS, FTIR, DSC, TGA.
• Experience with material process reviews and variable effects.
• Track record in fast-paced, competitive environments.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.
• Data-driven decisions using analysis.
• Trade studies and first principles recommendations.
• Strong engineering fundamentals.
• Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
• Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed.
• ITAR: US citizen or eligible for required authorizations.
