Staff Backend Engineer, AI Systems

📋 Description

• Build core backend systems for Mural's agent platform (orchestration, memory, eval)
• Design scalable APIs for AI agents to retrieve context and coordinate workflows
• Develop the agent memory layer (context, retrieval, summarization)
• Create infra to monitor, debug, and improve agent behavior via traces and metrics
• Translate complex product needs into backend architectures and data models
• Help define the technical direction for agentic AI at Mural

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years software engineering; design, build, and operate reliable production systems
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems for complex workflows
• Familiarity with AI/LLM/agentic systems (tool use, context retrieval, evaluation)
• Strong focus on production quality: observability, reliability, testing, security
• Strong communication skills and cross-functional collaboration
• Experience working full stack or product-facing frontend experiences
