Staff Software Engineer

📋 Description

• Be the first engineering member in NYC, collaborating with underwriters and actuaries.
• Own major initiatives and a large area of Shepherd's product experience.
• Work across the stack with underwriting, design, and product management.
• Mentor other engineers as we scale the team.
• Balance innovation with pragmatic delivery while shipping quality products.
• Contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions.
• Collaborate closely with PM, CTO, and the insurance team.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years experience as a full-stack engineer
• Experience with Javascript/Typescript (backend and/or frontend)
• Proficiency with React, Next.js, GraphQL, Apollo
• Backend: Node.js, Postgres, Redis, GraphQL APIs
• Insurance or InsurTech experience is a plus
• Strong communication and mentoring skills
• Track record shipping high-impact products
