Staff Software Engineer - Databases, Tempo

📋 Description

• Lead multi-quarter initiatives from framing to rollout.
• Own Tempo core components: ingestion, storage, query, metrics.
• Design APIs for humans and agents across Tempo.
• Drive operational excellence: SLOs, toil reduction, autoscaling.
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call incidents.
• Contribute to open source Tempo in the Grafana ecosystem.

🎯 Requirements

• Deep systems experience building distributed data systems in production.
• Strong Go, or path to it.
• Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or large-scale observability systems.
• Experience designing query languages, SQL/TraceQL-like engines, or APIs.
• Experience operating multi-tenant, multi-cell SaaS infrastructure at scale on Kubernetes.
• Leadership through writing and collaboration; mentoring engineers.
