Staff Software Engineer

📋 Description

• Define and own the platform architecture (multi-modal APIs and data infra)
• Lead cross-functional initiatives; convert bets into engineering roadmaps
• Architect scalable AI systems: LLM integrations, retrieval, tools
• Set engineering standards as we scale from 30 to 300 engineers
• Translate product vision into architecture and shipped systems
• Embed AI-native development (Claude Code, Cursor) into engineering practice
• Mentor senior engineers to build a faster, more autonomous team
• Operate in-person in SF, 5 days a week

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years software engineering with technical direction experience
• Proven track record of architectural wins that scale and survive in production
• Expert in TypeScript and Python; strong JavaScript for full-stack work
• Platform engineering: distributed systems, event-driven, cloud-native
• AI engineering depth: LLMs, context management, tool-use, eval strategy
• Ability to design for evolving requirements
• BS/BA in Computer Science; MS or PhD in CS, AI, or a related field is a meaningful plus
• Radical ownership; problems solved or escalated within 24 hours
• Full-time SF presence — you're a force multiplier in the room
