Staff Software Engineer (Repositories)

📋 Description

• Own technical direction for Chainguard Repository, including registries and APIs.
• Design, build, and operate high-availability Go backend services for libraries today.
• Lay the foundation for containers, images, and APK repositories.
• Lead scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for prod systems.
• Drive architecture decisions and patterns for artifact-serving infrastructure at scale.
• Partner with Libraries, Build Platform, Delivery, Product, Security; mentor engineers.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years building and operating production backend/infrastructure with leadership.
• Strong Go experience, or deep backend systems experience with Go.
• Experience building/operating customer-facing infra such as registries, APIs, or dev platforms.
• Experience deploying and managing services in production with reliability and observability.
• Comfort across app and infra layers, including Terraform and cloud infra.
• Strong systems instincts and curiosity; proactively identify problems and fix before bottlenecks.

Nice to have

• Experience with registries and artifact serving platforms.
• Familiarity with software supply chain security concepts (provenance, SBOMs).
• Open source experience and tooling for developers at scale.
• Experience expanding multi-artifact repos across libraries, containers, OS packages.
