Staff Software Engineer, Search

📋 Description

• Technical lead for a new Search team at Babylist
• Build search capability from the ground up, moving search in-house
• Choose architecture for indexing, retrieval, and serving, and plan migration
• Define how to measure result quality and improve through query understanding, ranking, and
• Unify search across items we sell and items from other retailers, and across products, guides, and
• Integrate search with recommendations, bringing user and registry knowledge into results

🎯 Requirements

• Hands-on search experience: building and running search in production, including indexing
• Experience evaluating search quality: offline and online, including relevance judgments and A/B
• Focus on the user: using query data, behavior, and judgment about result quality to decide what to
• Comfort building from zero: define the problem, design the system, and own it end to end
• Measure yourself by impact: customer outcome or a system a dozen teams depend on
• Experience changing how a team builds with AI, and the new way stuck
