Staff Software Engineer, Tax Accounts

📋 Description

• Design, build, and test tax-account systems across jurisdictions.
• Build automation to manage agency access on the customer's behalf.
• Model complex, jurisdiction-specific compliance rules.
• Partner with Product, Design, Tax Ops, and PEO to prototype, iterate, and launch.
• Mentor engineers and tackle hard problems at scale.
• Travel to Gusto's office for onboarding is required.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience owning multi-quarter projects solving complex problems with measurable impact.
• Experience building scalable, reliable solutions with ownership of reliability and performance.
• Design data models and APIs for complex, rules-heavy domains (compliance/tax).
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and leveraging AI tools to accelerate development.
• Ability to mentor engineers and communicate effectively across teams.
