Backend Engineer, Applied AI

📋 Description

• Own core pieces of Citizen's real-time backend system, including the real-time pipeline, live video
• Build and operate backend services with AI agents, proposing where agents can run autonomously
• Drive initiatives end-to-end under a driver and builder model, owning scope, sequencing, and
• Participate in on-call rotation (approximately one week every two months), resolving urgent
• Instrument services (e.g., Segment events, BigQuery checks) to ensure accurate metrics.
• Extend and operate the agent loops for drafting, reviewing, testing, and operating backend code.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience building and running backend systems at consumer scale, real-time or event-driven.
• Fluent in Go; comfortable with Python for ML and data pipelines.
• At home on Kubernetes and modern cloud stack: message queues, relational and analytical stores
• Experience carrying a pager for a production system.
• Experience with live video or streaming infrastructure (or ability to learn fast).
• Experience putting ML models or LLMs into production with evaluation, fallbacks, and audit.

🎁 Benefits

• Base salary of $185,000–$245,000 per year
