Principal Engineer - Payments Products & Platform

📋 Description

• Shape technical strategy across multiple teams, partnering with senior stakeholders to turn complex
• Set the example for a portfolio of 40 to 50 engineers, staying close to the technical detail
• Join a global community of Principal Engineers across Xero, driving engineering standards
• Set long-term direction for payments products and platform
• Review existing payments systems to determine what to extend, migrate or rebuild
• Lead growth experiments and AI-powered payment chasing

🎯 Requirements

• Deep experience designing and running large-scale distributed systems in production, balancing
• Payments or fintech experience is a real plus
• API-first thinking, comfortable across web, API and data layers
• Fluency in at least one modern backend language (C#, Java, Go, or C++)
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores
• Experience with cloud-native platforms, ideally AWS
